Gabrielle Union to play herself in new role.

Sorta kinda. As part of her new production deal with ABC, Gabrielle Union will play a model-turned-recording artist and fiancée of a star wide receiver in ABC's adaptation of the U.K.'s Footballer$ Wives. A campy mix of Dallas and Desperate Housewives that premiered in 2002, Wives focuses on three ordinary women whose lives are transformed by the celebrity and fortune that come with marriage to soccer superstars. The ABC adaption will focus on American football aka the National Football League.

It shouldn't be a stretch for Gabrielle since she was married to an NFL player,

Chris Howard

and was recently linked to Minnesota Vikings star

Darren Sharper (yes, UPGRADE!). But good for her. Glad to see her getting work, and on TV, where we need more Black women. Gabby sure has a thing for athletes, but who can blame her? She dated NBA star Jason Kidd in college and is currently rumored to be getting close to Yankee captain Derek Jeter. Go get it, girl!

But, what does this mean for my beloved The Game on CW? Not good, if you ask me. Two shows about women involved in the lives of NFL players. What are the odds?

I'd watch Idris read the phone book, so I'm right there for "Daddy's Little Girls." I could care less about Gabrielle Union's role.
